Pixelate released version 2 of their iPhone app today, and it has some pretty cool effects for people that are house hunting. The coolest feature for house hunters is the ability to paint a wall virtually. Realtors work hard to make sure a property shows as well as it can before listing it on the market (well, good Realtors do, but that is an entirely different topic). That said, sometimes a property has a paint job that the seller doesn’t want to part with, or it is a probate sale or has other issues that make it difficult or impossible to present the property in the way the Realtor would prefer to present it.

Which is where pixelate can be a cool tool for helping buyers visualize how a room might look with a different paint job. You simply snap a picture with the camera, and then pick the new color that you want on the wall and – boom – like magic – you’ve painted a wall. It would be really slick to see them actually team up with interior paint companies and offer their color palettes as options for painting the walls, because otherwise you’ve traded one problem (how would this room look if it was blue) for a new problem (which actual blue paint color is similar to the blue I virtually painted this wall).

But isn’t that technology in a nutshell? Either way, if you are out and about house hunting give pixelate a try – you can download it from the iTunes store (it is currently listed for $.99). And I’d love to hear what other apps you find to be useful in the house hunting process?
