Choosing a gym can be stressful. You need to be able to get the workout you want without breaking the bank. San Francisco provides plenty of gyms and health clubs, with a wide range of startup and on-going cost. Below, you’ll find four options for working out while staying financially fit.
24 Hour Fitness
Depending on the plan you choose and the location, you could work out at 24 Hour Fitness for less than $40 a month. They provide excellent options with 400 locations across 18 states. Choose from three membership levels including Sport, Super-Sport and Ultra-Sport with many different amenities and services included.
The biggest perk of 24 Hour Fitness is the ability to work out whenever you want. They are open, wait for it, 24/7.
Crunch Gym
Typically they charge an enrollment fee of around $260, but sometimes they run promotions dropping this fee to $50 or less. The monthly fee is pretty affordable at about $65 to $72 depending on the location. You can even get a city Crunch membership for about $80 giving you access to all the gym locations.
The membership can get more expensive as you add on other things, such as special classes or access to additional locations. They will ask you to pay the first and last month with the enrollment fee, so it’s a bit expensive to start, but still one of the more affordable choices in San Francisco.
Fitness SF
Their first location was in the Castro neighborhood after they didn’t renew their Gold’s franchise because of homophobic actions. Since then, they’ve grown across the city and t Fitness SF, you have the option to pay a $199 initiation fee and just $60 per month. However, they also offer an option for a $99 initiation fee with a $70 per month fee or no initiation fee with an $80 monthly fee. You can choose the plan that works best for you.
They also offer three and six-month memberships, along with a one-year prepaid option or two-year prepaid option with additional savings. Any membership gives you access to all of the locations in the area and all of the classes offered.
Live Fit Gym
One of the most affordable gyms in San Francisco, Live Fit Gym offers membership starting at $67 per month with a $50 start-up fee. You can add additional services, such as chiropractic adjustments and acupuncture or Swedish massage for an extra charge.
The membership doesn’t include group classes, but those can also be added on a monthly basis or per class basis. With four locations in the city, this is one of the most affordable gyms if you just become a basic member.
Planet Fitness
Another very affordable option is Planet Fitness. They work in a similar way to Live Fit Gym with a basic membership and the ability to add on what you want. The membership fees to join are often waived with different promotions.
You can start for $15 per month without any type of commitment or choose the $10 per month option with a one-year commitment and a $10 start-up fee. Add on classes for another $10 to $15 per month.
Other affordable gyms and health clubs in San Francisco include:
- StudioMix – $145 per month for unlimited or $10 per class
- TRX Training Center – $185 for a month, $60 for a week or $25 per class
