Westwood Highlands Neighborhood Basics:
Looking for a detached single family home? Then you’ve (probably) come to the right neighborhood. You’ll find the homes for sale in Westwood Highlands located between Monterey Ave. on the south, Yerba Buena & Casitas to the west, Lansdale to the north, and an arbitrary line along the east side that roughly tracks Lulu street.
Housing Stock and Style:
Westwood Highlands was built out beginning roughly in the 1920s, but many of the lots were vacant for decades, so the neighborhood is an interesting mix of older pre-WWII homes and mid-century modern homes that were built post WWII. That said, the neighborhood is almost entirely single family homes. Homes often have front yards (and also backyards), so the neighborhood has a quaint suburban feel to it. The neighborhood is hilly and the streets are windy, so bring your GPS because it is easy to get disoriented in the neighborhood.
Low. Most people in the neighborhood wander into their kitchen for their morning coffee, since there is no commercial corridor in the neighborhood and the nearest coffee shop would be a healthy hike (most likely to the east along Monterey in the Sunnyside neighborhood). Homes tend to have garages, so you rarely see much pedestrian activity along the streets and sidewalks.
The West Portal Muni light rail stop is walkable if you’ve got good legs and aren’t in a hurry. Bus lines do serve the neighborhood, but most residents of Westwood Highlands rely on their car as their primary mode of transportation. Access to I-280 for commuters to the South Bay/Silicon Valley is pretty good but not immediate.
