San Francisco is the center of my universe, and apparently, life continues across the Bay Bridge. Lest we be accused of forgetting about the East Bay, here’s a post with a few things we’re told are awesome over there.  Berkeley and Oakland are apparently not the entire east bay, there’s much more to it! San Leandro, Fremont, Walnut Creek, Hayward and even Livermore… Here’s what you might discover when visiting the hidden gems of East Bay.

Coyote Hills Regional Park in Fremont

A public park with about 979 acres of space including grasslands, rolling hills and marshland, Coyote Hills Regional Park is the highlight of Fremont. This park offers plenty of activity including walking, biking, jogging and more. You can enjoy the 2,000-year-old Tui Bun Ohlone Village site, along with a Wildlife Refuge and even a 12-mile trial.

Wente Vineyards in Livermore

When you want a glass of great wine and you don’t know where to go, head to Wente Vineyards in Livermore. This destination offers great events, concerts and plenty of wine. The tasting room offers plenty of choices to enjoy or you can just have a glass on the patio. They even offer classes throughout the year.

Calicraft Brewing Company in Walnut Creek

Another Easy Bay gem you will want to discover is the Calicraft Brewing Company. This spot offers great craft beer with plenty of perks. The brewery opened in 2012 and has been using unique, locally-grown ingredients since. They use start thistle hone, anise hyssop and other ingredient in their brews. Head to this great spot and enjoy sampling beer and sparkling ales.

Zocalo Coffeehouse – San Leandro

Opened in 1996, this coffee house has become the place to go in San Leandro. It’s known for the small batch roasted coffees and musicians that come here to play. The coffee house also offers sandwiches and salads on the menu.

Niles Canyon Railway – Fremont

Another spot to discover in Fremont, the Niles Canyon Railway offers a living history museum with fully operational trains to ride from Fremont to Sunol. The days and times will vary for train rides, but this is certainly an option to enjoy in Fremont.

Kanishka’s Gastropub in Walnut Creek

Whether you want something good to eat or you want to enjoy craft beer, Kanishka’s is the place to go. They provide a wonderful list of wine, beer and innovative dishes inspired by Indian cuisine. Infused options from India, China and even the United States are served up with plenty of local beers and wines to complement each dish.

Murrieta’s Well Estate Vineyard in Livermore Valley

Another great place for wine, Murrieta’s offers plenty of options and has been growing grapes since the 1800s. This vineyard has a Tasting Bar and you can book reservations ahead of time. They also have a Club Lounge outside to enjoy.

There’s plenty to discover throughout the East Bay area. It’s not all about Oakland and Berkeley. The East Bay area offers so much more and these are just a few of the options. When you’re ready to get out of San Francisco and discover some of the local areas nearby, head to these hot spots for coffee, wine, beer and more.
